Tapioca/kappa reminds me the taste of kerala.Kappa biriyani is a famous delicious dish in kerala.Tapioca biriyani has in various types.It varies from region to region.It is made by combining cooked then mashed tapioca with awesome tasty meat masala.

Ingredients for making Kappa Biriyani:
For kappa:

  • Tapioca-500 gms.
  • Turmeric powder-1/4 teaspoon.
  • Salt-to taste.
  • Water for cooking.

For meat masala :

  • Indian Beef- 500 gms,(Cleaned ,cut into small pieces)
  • Onion-1 medium sized.
  • Ginger and garlic crushed-2 tablespoons.
  • Green chillies-3 finely chopped.
  • Curry leaves-2 sprig.
  • Turmeric powder-1/4 teaspoon.
  • Chilli powder-1/2 tablespoon.
  • Coriander powder-1 tablespoon.
  • Black pepper powder- 1 teaspoon.
  • Garam masala powder-1 full teaspoon.
  • Oil-As required.
  • Water-1/4 cup.

How to make kappa biriyani/tapioca biriyani:
Cook tapioca/Kappa:

  1. Peel the tapioca ,wash it and chop into small pieces.
  2. Boil water in a deep bottomed pan .Put kappa into it.Cook along with salt and turmeric powder.
  3. When tapioca completly cooked drain the exess water from it.
  4. Mash the tapioca well.Keep this aside.

Cook meat masala:
Marinate the beef with salt,turmeric,chilly powder and ginger garlic for 1 hour.

  1. Heat 2 tablespoon of oil in a pressure cooker.Put curry leaves.Put ginger and garlic saute for sometime.Add chopped onion to it.Add in green chillies .
  2. Add salt to taste.Add the spice powders to it.Turn the flame to lower.Then add marinate meat to it.
  3. Combine them well .Add 1/4 cup of water.Pressure cook it.
  4. Mix meat masala with cooked tapioca well.Tapioca biriyani is ready... Enjoy..!!
