Recipe for chana dal / parippu / Lentil fritters


Parippuvada is a common snack an the kerala tea shop.It is a tastier and crispy snack which is made with chana dal/parippu.Let me share the recipe for crispy parippuvada.My hubby always love this tea time snack.He always ask me to make this for him.I gonna be show you how to make it.

Ingredients required for preparing parippuvada are:

  1. Parippu/Chana dal/Lentil-2 cups.
  2. Onion-1 medium sized(thinly sliced)
  3. Ginger-1' piece(Finely chopped)
  4. Green chillies-2 numbers(Chopped)
  5. Curry leaves-2 sprigs (chopped)
  6. Asafoetida -1/4 teaspoon.
  7. Salt to taste.
  8. Oil for frying.

Preparation:

  1. Wash and soak chana dal for 4 hours. Drain the water  grind them. Do not add water and do not grind it too much.
  2. Add asafoetida,salt,chopped ginger,curry leaves and onion to it.Mix well with your hands.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.We have to deep fry it on a medium heat.Wet your hands and take a small portion of the ground mixture.Make a ball with it.Place this ball to the centre of your palm and just press it and make a flattened round shape of parippu vada.
  4. Drop this into hot oil. Deep fry it on a medium low flame. Turn it over when one side is cooked.
  5. When the vadas become golden colour take it out.Place them to kitchen towel/tissue paper for draining excess oil from it.
  6. Tasty parippuvada is ready... Yummy..
  7. Serve hot with tea... Black tea is the excellent combination.
