Chicken Chukka | Kerala Style Chicken Chukka Roast | Easy chicken chukka Recipe

Chicken chukka is a popular dish in south India.It is very easy to make and it is very delicious. I tried this chukka in my own style. But it is very delicious.. I hope you will love this chicken recipe.. Try this recipe and let me know how it turned out.

Ingredients for making Chicken chukka are:


  1. Chicken- 900gms ,cut ,cleaned.
  2. Black pepper -8 to 10 no. s
  3. Dry red chillies-2 no.s, broken.
  4. Ginger & garlic -1 tbsp, crushed.
  5. Curry leaves -few.
  6. Green chillies-4 no.s, split.(according to your spice level)
  7. Onion-Sliced,3 medium.
  8. Tomato-2 medium, chopped.
  9. Turmeric powder-1/2 Tsp
  10. Coriander powder-2 Tsp
  11. Red chilli powder-2 Tsp
  12. Fennel powder-1/4 Tsp
  13. Garam masala powder-1 Tsp.
  14. Salt to taste.
  15. Oil-2 tbsp.

Method of preparation:



  1. Heat a pan with oil. Add black pepper, dry red chillies to it. 
  2. Add in ginger, garlic and curry leaves saute for few seconds.
  3. Now add sliced onions, green chillies and salt. saute well until the onion becomes golden brown.
  4. Now turn the heat to low and add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and fennel powder. Saute till the oil is separated.
  5. Add garam masala powder and mix well.
  6. Add cleaned chicken and toss well with the gravy. 
  7. Cover with a lid and cook for 10 minutes on a low flame.After 10 minutes, open it and just stir it to avoid the masala to get burnt.
  8. Again close it and cook for another 10 minutes.
  9. Now the water from the chicken has come out.Chicken is almost cooked.Add the chopped tomatoes and combine well.
  10. Increase the heat and cook till all the water from the chicken has dried up.
  11. Roast the chicken by stirring frequently.
  12. Spread few curry leaves at last.


Chicken chukka is now ready. Serve with Rice, Ghee rice, Chappathi or porotta.
