Falafel | Easy tea time snack recipe

Falafel or felafel is a deep-fried ball, doughnut or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern food, that most likely originated in Egypt. It is commonly served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbread known as taboon; "falafel" also frequently refers to a wrapped sandwich that is prepared in this way. The falafel balls are laid over a bed of salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces.

Ingredients for making falafel are :

  1. Dried Chickpeas - 1 and a half cup.
  2. Garlic - 4 Cloves of garlic.
  3. Onion- 1/2 Onion roughly chopped.
  4. Green chillies- 1 or 2 numbers.
  5. Cumin seeds -1 Teaspoon.
  6. Parsley-1 Cup, fresh parsley leaves or coriander leaves.
  7. Salt to taste.
  8. Baking Soda-1/4 Teaspoon.
  9. Oil for frying.

Method of preparation :

  1. Wash and soak dried chickpeas in water for at least 6 hours or overnight & drain the water.
  2. To this add garlic cloves, roughly chopped onion, cumin seeds, parsley, green chillies and salt to taste.
  3. Blend coarsely in a food processor without adding any water. Add in baking soda and mix well.
  4. now wet your hands and prepare small sized balls.
  5. Deep fry the balls in hot oil. Keep the flame on medium and do not overcrowd.
  6. Once the falafel turns golden brown remove from the oil.
  7. Serve this hot and crispy falafel with hummus dip.
