Kerala Style King Fish fry(Meen varuthath)

Hi readers this is one of my favourite recipe. I always make a fish fry when we bought any fish for the curry.I seperate 2 pieces for frying them(1 for my hubby and 1 for me).He always love fish fry.So I always make fish fry.Sometimes I add ginger and garlic for frying.But sometimes not.When I have no time to spend in kitchen I skip the step of adding ginger and garlic for the fish marination.But if you add ginger and garlic for fish frying the taste is great.

Today I am sharing the normal frying recipe .But the speciality is that it is king fish.It is one of my favourite fishes.Lets get cooking them.It needs few ingredients.But it is a delicious side dishes.

Serves- 2 to 3 members.
Time for marination-1 hour.
Prepration time-10 mins for frying.

Ingredients for making King fish fry:

  1. King fish- Cut,cleaned 3 pieces medium pieces.
  2. Ginger garlic paste-1 tablespoon each.
  3. Red chilli powder-1 1/2 tablespoon.
  4. Turmeric powder-1 teaspoon.
  5. Cumin powder-1/2 teaspoon.
  6. Salt-1/2 teaspoon
  7. Oil for shallow frying.

Method of preparation:

  1. Apply little salt and rub the fish pieces and wash them.Drain thw water completly.
  2. Mix all the spice powders with salt and ginger garlic paste.
  3. Apply this paste to the fish pieces and set aside for 1 hour.
  4. After 1 hour.Heat a pan with oil in it.Shallow fry the fish pieces.Cook both the sides..
  5. Fish fry is ready to serve..
Serving suggestions:
  • Serve with a piece of lime and onion rings.
  • Serve with coriander leaves or leaves you love.
  • Serve with plain rice.

Shallow frying marinated fish pieces.I fried 7 pieces.But the above ingredients for 3 pieces.

Serve this delicious fish fry..


  • Adjust the spice powders according to your taste.
  • Fry the fish in a medium or low flame.
  • Add curry leaves when frying.It taste and smells good.
