Sweet Mango Pickle

This recipe is dedicated to all mango lovers.I think most of us like to eat raw mangoes with salt and chilli powder.Yes I know mango is a mouthwatering fruit..Here is a sweet and sour recipe of mango.. This can be used as a side dish with rice..My mom in laws special recipe.Try this recipe at your home..Ingredients for this recipe is same as that of other pickles.but speciality of this recipe is its sweet..No doubt sweetening agent of this pickle is jaggery.If you have no jaggery you can also add sugar instead of jaggery.It also tastes good..
Lets get cooking..

Ingredients for making pickle:

  1. Raw Mangoes-Medium size 3 to 4 numbers (Cleaned (not too small),chopped-with its skin)
  2. Mustard seeds-1 tsp
  3. Fenugreek seeds-1 tsp
  4. Red chilli powder-1 or 2 tbsp (According to your spice level)
  5. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  6. Fenugreek powder-1/2 tsp
  7. Asefoetida-1/2 tsp
  8. Jaggery powdered-1 cup(Or can use sugar instead of that)
  9. Vinegar-3 tbsp
  10. Ginger-Finely chopped 3 tbsp
  11. Garlic pods-1 full garlic's(about 10 pods)
  12. Red chillies-3 to 5 numbers slitted
  13. Curry leaves-few
  14. Oil-As required for tempering
  15. Salt-As required

Method for making sweet mango pickle:

  1. Marinate mango pieces with turmeric powder and salt for 1 hour.
  2. Then heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan.
  3. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.Wait for 3 seconds.Allow it to splutter.
  4. Then add Ginger,garlic,green chillies,curry leaves.. Wow... what a smell..
  5. Saute until goes its raw smell.
  6. Lower the flame to simmer ..Then add all the spice powders...Then add powdered jaggery and vineger.Allow to melt jaggery..
  7. Then add mango..Turn of the flame and saute for some time..Mix all the ingredients thoroughly..

Allow it to cool ..Then store the pickle in a clean dry container .Can use for a week,if you store in fridge..Serve with rice ,biriyani,pulav and also with chappathis.. Yum..yum..


  •  Always use dry spoon to take pickles.
  • If  jaggery is not clean you have to strain it once after it is melted.So intially do this step when you added to the pickle.. Stay healthy..:)
