Ulli vada Recipe | Onion fritters | Onion pakoda.

Ulli vada is a tasty snack which is commonly seen in kerala tea shops.It can be easily make.It is very tasty snack.The base of the onion pakoda is besan/gram flour.

Ingredients for making ulli vada:

  1. Onion-2 big Onions sliced.
  2. Green chillies- 3 no.s chopped.
  3. Gram flour/Kadalamaavu-1 cup.
  4. Rice flour-2 tablespoon.
  5. Chilly powder-1 teaspoon.
  6. Asafoetida-1 pinch.
  7. Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon.
  8. Curry leaves-1 sprig chopped.
  9. Baking soda-1 pinch.
  10. Salt to taste.
  11. Water as needed.
  12. Oil for deep frying.

Method of preparation:

  1. In a bowl take gram flour,rice flour,baking soda and salt.Mix well.
  2. Add in sliced onion and chopped green chillies.
  3. Add a little water and mix it well with your hand.,Add more water if it needs.(consistency of batter is not so watery nor too thick).
  4. Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil in it.Drop small balls of pakoda to it.
  5. Deep fry them till it get crispy and a golden brown colour.Cook in medium flame.

  6. Strain it to the tissue paper to filter excess oil in it.

Serve with tea.. enjoy...
