Chicken Shorba | Arabic Shurba Recipe | Ramadan Special Dish

Shorba or Chorba is a kind of hot soup or stew relished across Middle-East Asia, South and Central Asia, and North Africa. ... Shorba is derived from an Arabic term, 'Shurbah', meaning soup. The flavored broth is served after separating it from the meat and vegetables, as a starter or as part of the main course.


Ingredients for this recipe:
  1. Chicken-1 Cup,chopped(Boneless)
  2. Oats-1 Cup.
  3. Butter/oil-1 tablespoon.
  4. Onion-1 medium-sized onion, chopped.
  5. Garlic- Crushed-1 teaspoon.
  6. Tomato-1 tomato chopped.
  7. Cinnamon stick-1 inch piece.
  8. Cardamom-3 numbers.
  9. Cloves-3 numbers.
  10. Turmeric powder-1/4 teaspoon.
  11. Cumin powder-1/4 teaspoon.
  12. Black pepper powder-1/2 teaspoon.
  13. Chicken stock cube-10 gms.
  14. Salt to taste.
  15. Water-4-5 Cups.

Method of preparation:
  1. Heat a pressure cooker and add butter or oil. Add chopped onion and garlic. Saute them until onion becomes translucent.
  2. To this add the whole spices such as cinnamon stick, cardamom, and cloves. Mix all together.
  3. Now add turmeric powder, cumin powder, and black pepper powder.
  4. To this add chopped tomato and saute for a minute. Add the chicken stock cube and chopped chicken pieces. Mix well until combined. 
  5. Add a cup of oats and 4-5 cups of water. If you want thin consistency to add more water.
  6. Mix well. cover the lid and pressure cook for 15-20 minutes over a medium-low flame.
  7. Allow the pressure to subside completely.
  8. Chicken shorba is ready to serve.
