Chick pea masala/curry is famous in Indian cuisine. There are several types of chana curry.. Here is simple recipe. Anybody can try this curry without coconut. In kerala my mom and my grandmas cook chana/kadala/chickpea in coconut gravy.. I tried with out coconut only by blending onion and ginger garlic masala together after by sauting them.. It gave another super taste and thick gravy like coconut gravy.Delicious recipe. try it.. Lets get cooking..!!!
Ingredients:- Chickpeas- 3/4 cup
- Ginger - 1 inch piece(crushed)
- Garlic - 6 cloves(finely chopped)
- Onion -2 Chopped
- Tomatoes - 3 medium sized chopped roughly
- Red Chilli Powder - 1.5 tsp
- Coriander powder - 3/4 tsp
- Garam masala- 1 tbsp
- Turmeric pwd-1 tsp
- Redchilli pwd-1 tbsp
- Coriander pwd-2 tsp
- Mustard seeds-1 tsp
- Coriander leaves - just to garnish
- Water -as required
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - as required
Method:
Soak chickpeas overnight or atleast for 8 hours.Set aside.
In a pan heat oil - add ginger, garlic,onion.
Add tomatoes ,saute well until it cooked.
Grind it to a fine paste.Set aside.
In a pressure cooker heat oil .add mustard seeds.Then add the grinded tomato onion paste.
Add required salt. and pressure cook for 4,5 whistle in medium flame.
Once done, open and add more water if the gravy is too thick - I added remaining 1 cup water and allowed it to boil in sim for 5mins.Once oil seperates and desired consistency is reached, Garnish with coriander leaves and Turn off the flame.
Serve it with chappathis, poories.. enjoy..!!
