I know no introduction is needed.. Tasty and very popular malabar snack/appetizer. The first time I try this irachi pathiri and came out well. It was awesome.. Friends I am posting this recipe as ramadan(iftar) special. I am sure you will try this.. Don't miss it.. Video for the recipe is also here..

Ingredients for Irachi pathiri filling:

  1. Chicken-boneless/chicken breast I used.
  2. Onion-2 numbers,chopped.
  3. Ginger and garlic-crushed-2 tablespoon.
  4. Green chillies-3 numbers,chopped.
  5. Turmeric powder-1 teaspoon.
  6. Garam masala powder-2 teaspoon.
  7. Coriander powder-1 teaspoon.
  8. Black pepper powder-1/2 teaspoon.
  9. Oil-2 tablespoon.
  10. Salt as required.

Ingredients for pathiri (Covering):


  1. All pupose flour/Maida-2 cups.
  2. Salt-1/2 teaspoon.
  3. Oil-2 tablespoon.
  4. Water-about 1 or 3/4 cup.
  5. Oil for deep frying.

Method of preparation:
Make filling:

  1. Cook chicken along with turmeric powder,salt and little water.Shred the chicken with a spoon and keep this aside.
  2. Heat an pan with oil in it. Add ginger, garlic and green chillies.. Saute for few seconds.
  3. Add in onion. Saute until it becomes translucent. Add salt into it.
  4. Add shredded chicken and spice powders. Combine well and saute for few seconds in a low flame.
  5. Filling is ready.

Make pathiri dough:

  1. Take a large bowl. Add flour,salt and oil. Add little water and mix well. Knead with your hand and make a smooth dough(like poori dough).
  2. Make equal sized small balls and roll it. We need 2 rotis(Pathiris) for one irachi pathiri.
  3. Take one roti and place 2 spoons of meat filling and place the other roti above it. Make a lock with roti by folding edges of the rotis.
  4. Do same for all irachi pathiris.
  5. Heat a pan with oil for frying. place each pathiris and fry them til gets a golden brown colour.
  6. Take the irachi pathiri from oil and place them to a paper towel to drain excess oil from it.
  7. Irachi pathiri/ meat stuffed chapathi is ready.. 

Serve as a tea time snack or iftar dish..
