Chicken Tikka Masala | Restaurant style chicken tikka masala recipe

Chicken tikka masala is a dish of chunks of roasted marinated chicken in a spiced curry. We can make this delicious chicken tikka masala at our home with ingredients in our pantry. Watch my youtube channel for the detailed recipe video
Let us get started,
Ingredients required in this recipe are :
To marinate-
  • Boneless Chicken- 500 gms, cut into bite-sized pieces.
  • Curd/yoghurt- 1/2 Cup,thick yoghurt.
  • Lemon Juice- 1 tablespoon.
  • Turmeric Powder-1/4 Teaspoon.
  • Kashmiri Chilli powder-1 1/2 tablespoons.
  • Ginger & Garlic -1 Teaspoon, Crushed.
  • Cumin Powder -1/4 Teaspoon.
  • Garam Masala Powder-1/2 Teaspoon.
  • Kasuri Methi-1 Teaspoon.
  • Salt - To taste.
  • Oil-2 Tablespoons, for frying.
For the gravy-
  • Butter-1 Tablespoon.
  • Onion- 1 Cup,chopped.
  • Ginger garlic- 1 teaspoon, crushed.
  • Green Chilli- 2 Chopped.
  • Turmeric Powder-1/4 Teaspoon.
  • Kashmiri Chilli powder-2 teaspoons.
  • Coriander powder-1 teaspoon.
  • Cumin Powder-1/4 Teaspoon.
  • Tomato- 2 large,chopped.
  • Garam Masala Powder-1/2 Teaspoon.
  • Kasuri Methi-1 Teaspoon.
  • Coriander leaves- few, chopped.
  • Sugar- 1 Teaspoon.
  • Cream- 1/2 cup.
  • Water as required
  • Salt to taste.

Method of preparation :
  1. In a bowl mix yogurt,ginger garlic paste, salt, lemon juice, turmeric powder, Kashmiri chili powder, cumin powder,garam masala powder, and  Kasuri methi. Mix this well and make a thick paste.
  2. Apply this marination to cleaned boneless chicken pieces. Keep this marinated for at least 1 to 6 hours. You can keep this in the refrigerator.
  3. Heat little oil in a pan(Grill pan is preferred)  Fry in the hot oil until the chicken is browed.
  4. You can also grill in the oven and keep this aside.
  5. In a separate pan heat 1 tablespoon of butter. Once the butter gets melted add Onion, ginger garlic paste , green chilies, and saute until the onion becomes translucent and soft.
  6. To this add all spice powders and saute until the raw smell goes.
  7. Now add chopped tomato or add pureed tomato. Saute until the tomato becomes mushy.
  8. Remove this from the heat. Let it cool down a bit.
  9. Transfer this to a blender jar along with some water and blend until smooth and creamy.
  10. Add this back to the same pan in which we saute the onion. Adjust consistency by adding water.
  11. Boil this for 2 minutes. Once the gravy is boiled add in fried chicken,garam masala, Kasuri methi, and coriander leaves. Mix well and cook until the sauce thickens and becomes deep red in color.
  12. Now add cream and mix well. Make sure you don't boil after adding the cream. Just cook on low heat for a minute. That is it, Chicken tikka masala is ready to serve. Serve hot with Naan or Rice.
